Berlin universities alone create their own city: More than 100,000 students from around the world study at the four major universities in Berlin – the Free University, the Humboldt University, Charité University Medicine and the Technical University.
In 2013, 17%, which is more than one-sixth of Berlin students, came from abroad.
The “Times Higher Education World Reputation Ranking 2015” lists the Humboldt University and the Free University in the top 100 universities in the world.
Free University
The Free University Berlin (FU Berlin) was founded in 1948 and has its headquarters and central campus in Berlin-Dahlem.
The Free University of Berlin is internationally known for its research in humanities and social sciences as well as in the field of natural and life sciences.
It is one of the leading universities in Germany and distinguishes itself through its modern and international character.

Humboldt University of Berlin
The Humboldt University of Berlin is one of Berlin’s oldest universities.
The range of subjects on offer at the Humboldt University includes the humanities, social and cultural sciences as well as human medicine and agricultural sciences. The mathematical and scientific institutes are concentrated in Adlershof close to and with many links to the research institutions and technology orientated companies in that area.

Charité
The Free University of Berlin and the Humboldt University of Berlin jointly support the Charité-Universitätsmedizin Berlin with the Faculty of Medicine and the University Hospital.
Charité is one of the largest university hospitals in Europe.
Here, 3700 doctors and scientists research, teach and heal at the highest level. More than half of the German Nobel Prize winners in medicine and physiology have come from Charité, among them Emil von Behring, Robert Koch and Paul Ehrlich.

Technical University of Berlin
The Technical University of Berlin (TU Berlin), is one of the largest and most prestigious research and education institutions in Germany.
The university was founded in 1879 and has its headquarters on the Straße des 17. Juni 135. It has the highest proportion of foreign students out of all the universities in Germany.

University of the Arts
The University of the Arts Berlin looks back on a 300-year history as Academy and Art Academy.
